Food security is critical to the health and wellbeing of all people in British Columbia. Food security means that everyone has access to food that is affordable, culturally preferable, nutritious and safe. It also means that food systems are resilient and sustainable.
Supporting people experiencing food insecurity
People and families facing food insecurity often worry about running out of food, have challenges getting a variety of foods, and may have to reduce meal size or skip meals altogether. Learn more about food insecurity and how to support those experiencing it:

Strengthening public health
In 2024, the Ministry of Health released a new provincial strategy to strengthen public health. The role of public health is to promote and protect the health and wellbeing of all people in the province. Learn more about the strategy including key principles, priorities and goals:
