Uses

This medication is used to treat skin infections. It is an antibiotic that works by stopping the growth of certain bacteria.

How To Use

If you are using this medication on the skin, clean and dry the affected area as directed. Then apply a small amount of the medication on the affected area, usually 3 to 4 times a day or as directed by your doctor. A thin layer is all that is needed. Cover with a bandage if your doctor directs you to do so.

Do not use large amounts of this medication, apply it more often, or use it for longer than directed. Your condition will not clear faster, but the chance for side effects may be increased.

Avoid using this medication in or around your eyes, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.

Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Continue to use it for the full time prescribed. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection.

Tell your doctor if your condition lasts or gets worse.

Side Effects

Mild irritation, burning, redness, or pain may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Remember that this medication has been prescribed because your doctor has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a new infection (such as a fungal infection). Contact your doctor if you notice signs of a new infection.

A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including:

  • rash
  • itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat)
  • severe dizziness
  • trouble breathing

This is not a complete list of possible side effects. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
