Overview
Choosing a health care provider
In B.C., you may choose a midwife or family doctor, or in some cases an obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) to provide primary care throughout your pregnancy.
Occasionally, pregnant people need specialized care. This could be due to a health concern or issues experienced during a previous pregnancy. In this case, your care team will expand to include certain specialists, such as an OB-GYN, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatology or a pediatrician. Your primary care provider will arrange further consultation or referral as needed.
